This session focuses on real world Use Cases of OW2 components and platforms, and includes the following presentations from OW2 project leaders or members of the community:

- 11:15 - 11:30am: Société du Canal de Provence Hybrid Cloud with OW2 ProActive, Denis Caromel & Brian Amedro, ActiveEon and Evelyne Vaissié, Système d'Information (2SI) & Fabrice Ernandes, Service du Système d’Information, Société du Canal de Provence (SCP)

Abstract: OW2 ProActive features the unique capacity to build Private Cloud (both in Native and Virtualized modes), together with dynamic bursting on all major Public Clouds. Overall, ProActive actually enables Cloud Brokering. Such an installation has been successfully achieved with ActiveEon’s customer SCP (Société du Canal de Provence). SCP mission is to develop and manage water resources, in order to provide a safe and reliable water supply for agriculture, industry and domestic use. SCP has strong credentials in over 40 countries in the fields of water development, management and engineering, as well as in operation and maintenance of hydraulic infrastructures. SCP uses ProActive and Azure Cloud to accelerate the IRMA application that simulate and compute settings for water distribution networks. ActiveEon made it possible to accelerate IRMA execution, to execute it on a private Cloud specifically built with ProActive over SCP internal resources (Windows and Unix OS), and to execute it as well on Microsoft Cloud, Windows Azure. With ActiveEon, SCP is able to execute IRMA runs that were lasting 3 full days, in only 30 minutes on Windows Azure. Moreover, all data and result transfers are included and automatically achieved in the figure above!

- 11:30 - 11:45am: Making Tough Open Core Product Decisions. Yves de Montcheuil, Talend.
Abstract: Open core has become a nasty phrase in some circles. Perched high on the fence that separates open source and proprietary software, the open core model has caused debate ever since it first emerged. Open core companies that enter the market with the best of intentions all too often prioritize their enterprise products (or, more to the point, the financial opportunities that they create) and allowing their communities to slowly decay. The open core model has worked, though…and when it does work, it creates explosive growth for the business, the technology, and its community. With the right leaders and priorities, it is possible to consistently make product decisions that are both profitable and community-friendly. In this session, Yves de Montcheuil from Talend talks about how his company approaches the open core model, where it’s worked, where it’s been surprisingly difficult, and how to maintain community values when divisive commercial opportunities become increasingly hard to resist.

- 11:45 - 12:00pm: GeoBI.info: when Open Data meet Cartogprahy, Andrea Gioia, Engineering Group.
Abstract: The presentation describes the GeoBI.info project, realized by TIS Innovation Park together with SpagoBI Competency Center. The project aims to promote the use of open data through their representation by thematic maps. Thanks to the system, based on the SpagoBI suite and available through the GeoBI.info web site, users can visualize interactive thematic maps or create new ones, starting from public and private catalogs of data through intuitive and easy-to-use Self Service BI tools. Registered users can publish new data in the catalog and choose how to share them with other users. The resulting maps can be accessed directly on the GeoBI.info web site or distributed through the most popular social networks. The presentation focus on the description of the functionalities, the way users access to them and the planned evolutions. Abstract: Do you already have Java application(s) for running your business, or new ones in development? You don't want to change your information systems -- you'd surely rather integrate BPM and workflow into them. You want it to be Open Source. The solution here is to integrate or embed Bonita BPM 6 in your development! From Eclipse setup to Java API usage to communicate with Bonita_Client, we will show how with an interesting use case.
